[ The Offer of Life or Death ] Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.
Deuteronomy 30:11
Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, Or what’s a heaven for?
Robert Browning
God says that whatever He is commanding us to do is not impossible to do! It may be daunting, it may be difficult, it may be uncomfortable, it may hurt. A lot. But it's not impossible.
We should not be surprised that the Bible has a relevant Word for every season of our lives. A Word to mature us, a Word to teach us, a Word to inspire us, a Word to convict us, a Word to comfort us in hard times and on and on and on. In fact, in hard times we are able to take major steps forward in our faith that we might not have taken without adversity pushing us.
The Bible shows us the possibility of a virgin birth, the conception of a child in a 90 year old woman, the army of 300 defeating an army of 32,000! The sun standing still, and time moving backwards. Are we saying that it was possible then but not now? Has God changed?
The book of Nehemiah is a great example that deep trust and unwavering obedience to God results in accomplishing the "impossible". It's a book about the power of prayer and motivating and leading a group of people to accomplish impossible things for God. Nehemiah was not a priest or a prophet but he was a man with great influence with God and people, that was burdened by God for his city.
Has God burdened you for your city? Has God burdened your church for your city?
God is able to change the entire culture of your city. God is able to bring peace, prosperity, and abundance to the driest wastelands, but we need to reach for it, grasp it, seize it, lay hold of it. With God nothing is beyond our reach.
Pray and invite God into your city.
Pray for holiness and humility.
Pray for corporate revival.
Pray for unity.
Pray for fervent prayer among the churches in your city.
God is looking for leaders who will stand in the gap for their cities and nations who don’t care who gets the credit. They give God the glory. Revival leaders are often unlikely choices. The measure of leadership is not just about influence with the public but influence with God. And with God nothing is impossible!
