Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
Psalm 32:9
A wild horse is of no value to it's owner. It's speed and strength is dangerous when not under control, so the horse needs to be broken. The bit and bridle used to give the horse direction brings pain. The breaking of a horse is very painful but when the horse realizes it's greatest security and care comes from its friendship and service to the owner it is a great value to the owner. Suffering, grief, affliction, being provoked by others, weeping, and misery are the bit and bridle God uses to bring us to submission. It's not an easy thing to surrender our will to His will, its very painful. When we can hear the voice of God and immediately obey, we are of great value to Him and His Kingdom. He can use us and lead us by the sound of his voice and less and less by the bit and the bridle.
You did not choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.
John 15:16
